Shedden wins the final BTCC race but is Disqualified in post race checks

Gordon Shedden has won a wet and interrupted final BTCC race of the day here at Donington Park. The first attempt to run the race was red flagged after numrerous cars went off in the heavy rain that was falling. After a delay to allow conditions to improve it was Shedden that came oit on top despite actually dropping a place off the grid as Josh Cook passed him. He took until lap three to pass Cook and then passed Turkington on the same lap. Shedden then gradually caught pole sitter Newsham’s BTC Norlin Chevrolet. He passed him around the outside of Redgate and charged off to take the win. But his car appeared to fail the post race ride height check so he may yet lose the win. (Check our Facebook page for the very latest updates.) Turkington also passed Newsham before the end to take second place; “That was incredibly tricky. We were just on the limit of grip everywhere. The Craner Curves were just the biggest challenge. I enjoyed it, and I was just trying to focus on Gordon and keep the lap times consistent. I’m so happy for the Team BMW guys. They grafted hard through the night. We’d done nothing spectacular up until now this weekend but we’ve just collected a really good points haul and that’s what you’ve got to do! Dave was very quick in the beginning. I thought he was up the road but he just started to come back. I could see where I was a little bit quicker but I wasn’t going to take much risk. He ran a little bit wide at Coppice and I just got my nose up the inside.” Newsham then had to deal with Ash Sutton trying to pass him and the two battled for several laps. This allowed Adam Morgan to catch the battle and then he explains what happened next; “I saw I was catching them but to be honest, I didn’t think I was going to get there in time. I thought if they started battling I’d be in with a shout. I came around the last corner. All of a sudden Ash got some wheelspin and I was alongside him I got squeezed on the grass for the second time today. To come back to third, I’m really pleased for the guys. It’s been a good day.” This left Sutton fourth and Newsham fifth. The rest of the results follow. If Shedden is disqualified, Turkington will take the win from Morgan and Sutton.
