In MX1, Nunn would start his day in blistering form, qualifying second quickest in Q1, moving through to the new Superpole final qualifying session, finishing that fifth fastest. Race one for Nunn would see a promising fifth place turn to an eventual disappointing 14th, after suffering a crash in the final stages of the race. In the second race of the day, Nunn would learn an all-important lesson about the new short race format, after crashing in the opening lap and having no time to come back through the pack, taking 14th again at the flag. A return to familiar form would follow in the final race of the day, as Nunn gated better and got his head down at the start, to ride to a solid fifth place result. Carl Nunn: "Things got going really well. The bike was running great and I felt really comfortable in both qualifying sessions, but just seemed to run out of luck. The final race went a little more to plan, but still wasn't quite as I'd hoped. We have learned important lessons this weekend and will be stronger for round two." In MX2, Karro would endure a steep learning curve too, after struggling to find a good set-up in qualifying and missing the chance to compete in the Superpole session. Come the first race of the day the young Latvian would too learn the craft needed in the new race format, gating poorly and struggling to move through the pack. With less time to push, Karro would settle for eighth at the flag. Learning his mistake quickly, Karro made an improved second race start and pushed harder in the opening lap to sit in a solid fourth spot with two laps to go, before a nasty mid-air crash, saw the RM-Z250 rider have to restart, eventually crossing the line two places lower in sixth. Race three would be a write-off after two crashes saw him come home in a disappointing 14th. Matiss Karro: "I struggled in the first qualifying session to find a good set-up and that put me out of the Superpole session. Like Carl I quickly realised that getting a good start is the most important thing now and by the second race I rode much harder on the opening lap and was back up with the leaders before I had my big air crash. I hit a boggy patch on take-off and it all went wrong from there, but I was lucky to escape relatively uninjured. Race three was a write-off. It's not possible to crash twice and return a good result, but we know what we need to do and will come back stronger at the next round." Team manager Mark Chamberlain: "It's been tough for both riders today. While the bikes ran perfectly, we learned a big lesson with the new format of racing. Crucially, with the short race format, our starts need to be good and today on the whole they weren't. I'm happy with the race pace of both Carl and Matiss, but we need to work on our starts and push hard on the opening laps. There's really very little opportunity to come back through the pack now, so we need to ensure we're gating better. A disappointing day, but we've salvaged some points and it's still early days."
