Hyundai Motor teases distinctive design of all-new crossover SUV Bayon
Hyundai Motor has released new images of its all-new B-segment crossover SUV, Bayon. A series of low-light images reveals a wide and connected design with a clean, high-tech look. Additionally, the company has confirmed that Bayon will be the latest model to incorporate its Sensuous Sportiness design identity, which combines emotional value with innovative design solutions.
The front features an air intake band stretching across the entire front of the vehicle and wide, narrow DRLs generate width. The broad front grille opens at the bottom, creating a solid stance. The headlamps are separated from the DRLs, creating a unique light architecture for a distinctive look.
The rear of the vehicle features arrow-shaped brake lights connected by a thin red line. Positioned far out to the sides, these lamps enhance the visual impression of width, making the rear graphic even more outstanding.
Bayon will be available in the first half of 2021. More information will be revealed in the coming weeks.
All-new HR-V to join Honda's electrified line-up in 2021
Honda will unveil the latest generation of its popular HR-V in February this year. The small SUV will feature the company’s advanced two-motor e:HEV powertrain technology as standard for the first time. Honda’s innovative hybrid set-up combines high efficiency with refined, fun-to-drive performance.
The all-new HR-V exemplifies Honda's commitment to achieving its ‘Electric Vision’ strategy that will see all of its European mainstream models electrified by 2022. The HR-V is the latest model in Honda's line-up to wear the e:HEV powertrain badging, joining the CR-V and all new Jazz which was launched in Europe last year.
The new HR-V e:HEV will be unveiled on 18 February 2021.
New Nissan Qashqai: Electrified powertrains accelerate Europe’s best-selling crossover into the future
The all-new Nissan Qashqai offers an uncompromising combination of dynamic performance, refined running gear and fuel efficient powertrains.
Supporting Nissan’s goal of achieving 50% electrified sales in Europe by FY23, the new Nissan Qashqai will not only be available with a 1.3 DiG-T petrol equipped with mild hybrid technology, but it also represents the European debut of e-POWER, Nissan’s innovative and award-winning powertrain that draws technologies from the company’s pioneering Nissan LEAF electric vehicle.
The e-POWER system for New Qashqai has been specially developed for the model to meet the rigorous demands of European drivers. Qashqai with e-POWER not only realizes a high level of fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions, but also responsive and powerful acceleration.
With both 2WD and 4WD variants, 6-speed manual or new Xtronic CVT transmissions, and pure-electric motor driving courtesy of e-POWER, the all-new Qashqai’s powertrain options cater for every customer requirement with driving pleasure at the heart of all the powertrain configurations.
The 12V ALiS (Advanced Lithium-ion battery System) mild hybrid system available on new Qashqai is a more affordable hybrid technology that provides torque assist, extended idle stop, quick restart and coasting stop [CVT only], with improvements to both fuel economy and CO2 output (-4g/km).
The positive impact of the mild hybrid’s energy management on CO2 is competitive and the 1.3-litre engine delivers more power and torque than key competitors, making the petrol engine variant a compelling offer. The ALiS mild hybrid system adds just 22kg to the overall vehicle mass.
When decelerating, energy is recovered through regeneration and stored in the Lithium-ion battery. This charged energy is then supplied during Idling Stop, Coasting Stop (CVT versions only) and Torque Assist.
When coasting to a stop, at speeds of less than 18kph, and ‘brake on’, the engine will switch off and the stored energy is used to power the vehicle’s electrical equipment. This allows engine stop to be extended and fuel consumption lowered as a result.
When accelerating (between 20kph/12mph and 110kph/68mph), the energy in the Lithium-ion battery allows the motor to assist with an additional +6Nm torque for up to 20 seconds. This helps reduce the torque effort on the engine and improves fuel economy.
The ALiS is mated to the refined and reputable 1.3 DiG-T petrol engine that was introduced to Qashqai in 2018. This engine has been improved further for new Qashqai with 50 newly designed components and Euro6-d Full compliance.
The turbo charger now features an electrically controlled waste gate for quicker response; new nozzles improve the central injector; reduced friction across a number of components improve CO2; and the gas particulate filter features a new substrate and under floor catalyst.
The 1.3-petrol 12V ALiS will be offered with two power outputs – 140PS and 158PS – with either a 6-speed manual transmission, or new Xtronic CVT gearbox (158PS only). Max engine power arrives at 5500rpm, with maximum available torque of 270Nm at a convenient 1750rpm on 158PS CVT and high power MT variants.
On manual versions the gearbox has been enhanced for a quicker, more direct and sportier shift feeling. The new generation Xtronic CVT transmission offers better fuel economy and acceleration feel thanks to improvements including a twin oil pump system with new electrical oil pump. The CVT on new Qashqai delivers the best of both worlds, offering seamless driving in the city and during light acceleration, combined with direct connected DCT-like d-step behaviour during hard acceleration.
2WD is available on both 140PS and 158PS versions, whilst 4WD will only be available on 158PS CVT models. A new 4WD control system and driving selection mode is more intuitive and intelligent, adapting itself to external conditions with five driving modes – Standard, ECO, Sport, Snow and Off-Road. In case of any wheel slip, the time which the 4WD system acts has been reduced by a factor of five to around 0.2 seconds.

New plug-in hybrid drivetrain for the VW Arteon
For the first time, the Volkswagen Arteon is now available with an electrified drivetrain in the form of a plug-in hybrid. The system comprises a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine supported by an electric motor, together providing a peak power output of 218 PS and torque of 400 Nm. Prices start at £39,905 OTR RRP for the fastback in Elegance trim.
The new plug-in hybrid drivetrain is supported by a 13 kWh battery which can provide an electric-only range of up to 39 miles, while the 115 PS electric motor can power the Arteon along at speeds up to 80 mph, where permitted. With the high-torque characteristics of the electric motor, both Arteon models can sprint from a standstill to 62 mph in just 7.8 seconds and, where allowed, onto a top speed of 138 mph.
The enhanced Arteon range is now available to order in over 20 configurations, split equally between the fastback and Shooting Brake models, with the new hybrid option now available across both body styles. Two equipment lines remain available – Elegance and R-Line – with the latest hybrid drivetrain available on both. The Arteon R with 320 PS and 4MOTION will arrive in due course for both body types.
