James ColeJames Cole will make his debut in the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, making the move from Formula Ford to touring cars, running the NGTC Vauxhall Insignia with Team HARD.

Here’s what James had to say about his debut season…

So James, how are you feeling as the 2013 season approaches?
I’m feeling excited and looking forward to the challenge of the BTCC. It’s so different from anything else I have done before – a very different style of motorsport than single seaters – but much more exciting. I have watched as many re-runs of the last few years as I can fine, I think I now know who’s cool and who I should keep away from!

From your previous racing experience, how different will lining up on the BTCC grid be for you?

It’s going to be so different. Yes, a race car is a race car and, given my level of experience, I have an expectation to be competitive, but to be fighting at the sharpest of sharp ends. I will need to learn how to drive front wheel cars very, very quickly.

What are your thoughts on the NGTC Insignia – are you looking forward to getting to grips with the new car as the season progresses?
The team are working as fast as they can to build the cars. I will not have months and months to get an idea – three weeks max – so I’ve got to make the most of it! I have never driven anything like an NGTC so those three weeks will be crucial!

Do you have any goals/expectations for the season?
Not crash! Thirty races is a long season! I’m coming into this year so open, I have no idea what to expect. But so sooo looking forward to the circus that awaits!

Are you looking forward to working with your new team mates?
Having Tom (Onslow-Cole) as a team mate will be great. He has lots of experience with the BTCC. Obviously my aim is to be on his pace as quick as possible! I believe Tony’s new team will provide a massive shake-up to the championship. Bring on Easter Sunday! By Nikki Thompson
