Tips for planning a US road trip

Chevrolet

ChevroletThere are many ways to experience America, but none of them are quite the same as a USA road trip.

America is a vast land with so much to offer its visitors, and the simplicity of the road systems (so different to the complicated roads in the UK) means that all you have to do is pack up a car, put your foot on the pedal and hit the road.

There are some helpful tips that you can benefit from when planning your road trip, whether you’re organising a romantic getaway for two or a family holiday. Flight Centre have put together a great infographic to help you to plan out your trip in its entirety, and here are some more great tips to help you too:

Be Prepared
There are plenty of different types of road trip, it really depends on what sort of experience you want. It’s also important to keep in mind that everyone’s travel style is different as well as their tolerance levels; you need to consider everyone coming on the trip.

For example, if you have children then they may not have the patience for long car journeys, so a trip composed of shorter distances and plenty of stop-off points will be better suited than people looking to take in the sights while they drive. If you can handle longer distances, then be sure to take advantage of some of the longer routes, such as Los Angeles to New York City, or a driving tour of the Deep South.

Landmarks and Attractions
Taking any route along America will offer more than its fair share of tourist attractions worth visiting. America has so much variety that you’ll be completely spoilt for choice, but by planning an effective route you will get to see the best of the United States.

A road trip can incorporate so many different things, from visiting cities to natural landmarks and man-made attractions like Mount Rushmore. It wouldn’t be a real road trip without plenty of sight-seeing.

Rent the Right Car
Having the right vehicle is extremely important when it comes to planning and executing a successful road trip. You have to make sure that the car you choose is up to the job of getting you around America, minimising the risks of breakdowns or any other issues that you might come across. This is entirely dependent on the length of the journey you have planned, how many stops you have planned and so on.

For example, an RV would be better suited for a trip that covers long distances; it means that you’ll have somewhere to sleep and will not be constrained by time limits. Be sure to do plenty of research on the best cars for an American road trip.
