Evolution of car Technology

Vauxhall GT Concept

Vauxhall GT Concept Our cars have come a long way over the past hundred years.

Since the start of the twentieth century, when early contraptions burned up the roads with blistering top speeds of 5 miles per hour, engineers have been hard at work constantly finding new ways to reinvent the car. With so much innovation over the years, countless new technologies have come and gone. While some inventions completely revolutionised motoring, such as the seatbelt, some sparks of inspiration have fallen flat.

Below, Halfords have put together a list of some of the biggest leaps in car technology over the past ten decades. Not all of these caught on, however. Ever seen a car with a built in drinks cabinet? Us neither. Read on to find out about the first car with a talking dashboard (and no, it wasn’t the one from Knight Rider), and to be amazed/appalled at the ‘submersible car’.
