Facelift for new Renault Megane

Megane 2014 rangeFresh from its unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, Renault has confirmed UK pricing and specification today for the facelifted Mégane range.

Primed to tackle the ever competitive C-segment head on, a series of engine and equipment alterations have been announced, as well as striking news that some versions receive price reductions of up to £1,200.

For 2014, the Mégane Coupé, Hatch and Sport Tourer all adopt the brand’s new brand identity. The more contemporary design includes a prominent, bold Renault logo set against a gloss black background, new bumper, sculpted bonnet and vent grilles. On top of new elliptical headlights and daytime running lights that stretch along the outer edges of the bumper.

Megane CoupeMegane HatchMegane Sport TourerFrom January, the facelifted range sports four trim levels (excluding Renaultsport), Expression+ (unavailable on Coupé), Knight Edition, Dynamique TomTom and GT-Line TomTom. Priced aggressively from £16,745, up to £1,200 has been sliced off selected versions

Compared to the outgoing range, £1,200 has been taken off the Energy dCi 110 and dCi 130 engines on every trim level, making them an even sweeter proposition. A sizeable £850 has also been trimmed off the 1.5 dCi 110 Auto EDC, plus £275 from the popular 1.2 TCe 115 engine.

The Mégane Hatch kicks off at £16,745, the same as before, with Mégane Coupé from £17,645 and the Mégane Sport Tourer starting from £17,745. As part of the changes, the range-topping Renaultsport 265 becomes a single trim level, with the option of adding the hugely desirable Cup Chassis Pack for £1,350.

As well as the new look, equipment levels have also been heightened. Automatic dual zone climate control is now standard on Dynamique TomTom, LED daytime running lights appear on Expression+ and lastly, R-Link is now optional on GT-Line TomTom.

Megane Renaultsport 265 Cup 2014The revised powertrain line-up sees five engines in total, newly branded Energy in line with next season’s Renault F1-2014 engine. The 1.2 TCe 115 is added to Expression+ and EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) versions of the 1.2 TCe 130 and dCi 110 are added to the GT Line TomTom across every bodystyle. The former will become available to order in the spring. Two engines are no longer available, the entry-level 1.5 dCi 90 and 2.0 dCi 165.

Depending on model and version, a total of seven option packs are available for the New Mégane. On the technology front, there are two packs, Vision (Visio System by Renault and rear parking camera) and R-Link Renaultsport Monitor (includes Western European mapping and Renaultsport Monitor v2 – on-board performance tracking system).

As you would expect, given two thirds of Mégane Renaultsport buyers opt for it, the popular Cup Chassis option remains. To recap, it means 18″ ‘TIBOR’ alloy wheels in matt black, fitted with 235/40 R18 95Y Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres, grooved brake discs, limited slip differential, red brake calipers, plus stiffer springs, dampers and anti-roll bar.

The four remaining combinations are Parking Pack – rear parking sensors, electrically folding door mirrors, a Look Pack – 17-inch ‘Plenum’ alloy wheels, extra tinted windows and tailgate and Smart Pack – smart loading fold flat passenger seat and rear 1/3 seats and compartmentalised boot. The Leather Pack stays available in four variations.

The new Mégane range is available to order now, priced from £16,745.
