If you look at the bigger picture, Ferrari’s line-up has changed little for 2014.
Yet there are a few key models to salivate over, including the flagship LaFerrari, the 458 Speciale, and the turbocharged California T. These new models bring the Ferrari brand to new heights of speed and efficiency, and are worth looking at.
LaFerrari
The LaFerrari in particular is hotly anticipated, and is being kept under strict lock and key until its general release. It was showcased last year at the Geneva Auto Show, and has just drummed up renewed interest by handing over the keys of this $2 million automobile to a few lucky media outlets. For now, basic details are available including the fact that this supercar produces 950bhp, and that only 499 models will be available, all of which are spoken for. A new limited edition LaFerrari XX will be unveiled next year, likely using the same hybrid internal combustion and electric engine to hit speeds of a reported 217 mph.
California T
Another exciting Ferrari reveal this year has been the new California T convertible sports car, which is the first turbocharged road car since Ferrari’s F40 supercar in the 1980’s. The engine will deliver 552hp and 556 pound-feet of torque, as a new update of the iconic California model. Ferrari is focusing more on both efficiency and performance in 2014 it seems, as we can see from the hybrid LaFerrari and this new turbocharged engine. The engine is an updated version of the 3.8-litre V8 engine used in the Maserati Quattroporte, allowing the California T to burn approximately 15% less fuel on the road.
458 Speciale
Finally, Ferrari has been keeping busy with the 458 Speciale, which follows in the footsteps of its 458 Italia and 458 Spider models. Although it doesn’t touch the speed and power of the LaFerrari, this new model will be nothing to sneeze at with a 562hp engine and ability to accelerate from 0-62 mph in under 3 seconds. The Speciale will be constructed from high-tech carbon fibre composite materials, and weighs in at a low 2844 pounds. Although it’s built for the road, it has its heart on the racetrack with its sleek blue and white racing stripes. It is designed with refined aerodynamics to provide a powerful racing experience on the road, which should ensure it’s a pleasure to drive.
Thus far, 2014 has been a bold and exciting year for Ferrari, with the brand’s grand reveals of these new models. Yet anticipation runs highest for the LaFerrari, which will be open for further review in a few weeks.
