British GT- Oman racing take their second win of the year at the Silverstone three hour race

Start (photo by Marc Waller)Ahmmad Al Harthy and Michael Caine have won the three hour British Gt Race at Silverstone. It’s the second win of the year for the Oman racing duo.

The race was initially very close but the Aston Martin won by over a minute in the end, crossing the line in a formation finish with the sister car of Rory Butcher and Liam Griffin who finished lower down the order.

In second was the Beachdean Aston Martin of 2013 champion Andrew Howard and Johnny Adam. Andrew Howard also won the ‘Driver of the Weekend’ Blancpain Gentleman Trophy.

Third place was taken in controversial circumstances when the M-Sport Bentley collided with the Ecurie Ecosse BMW of Marco Attard and Alexander Sims. It was Sims in the car when it hit the Bentley being driven by Steven Kane. Kane and team mate Rempert Berg were on the podium but the incident is under investigation and the result may change.

Barff attempted to continue but the damage was too great and he had to pull off before reaching the pitlane.

In GT4 Bradley Ellis and Adrian Barwick took the Twisted Team Parker Ginetta G55 to the win, ahead of the Optimum Ginetta. This had been Tania Mann’s car for the first two meetings but she has had to withdraw and joining Matt Draper is last year’s GT4 champion Ryan Ratcliffe. They certainly got their new partnership off to a successful start as Ratcliffe was also awarded the Mobil 1 Service Centre Master of the Weekend award in recognition of his excellent performance on his return to racing. Third was the TF sport Aston martin GT4 of Andrew Jarman and Devon Modell.

A full report will follow in the week. The next rounds of the British Gt championship are at Snetterton on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd June.   By Marc Waller
