Rebecca’s weekend got off to a bad start when the first practice session was stopped halfway through due to a four-car incident at Eau Rouge,
meaning she didn’t get to do any running in the KTM X-Bow GT4 she shares with team mate Thomas Krebs.
Thankfully during second practice, Rebecca was able to get out on track for 30 minutes, this was her first time driving the hilly Belgian track. Qualifying gave Rebecca and her team mate just 12 minutes each to get their laps in and the wet-to-dry conditions of the circuit also made it difficult to find any kind of pace. Ideally Rebecca would’ve liked more time to get settled in and learn the circuit but she was eager to get to the race.
The race began badly when the car wouldn’t start and in order to get it fixed, the mechanic stayed by the car longer than he was allowed. The pair managed to get the car running but Thomas had to start from the pit lane and was given a drive-through penalty.
While he managed to overtake some cars he had to drive through the pits to carry out that penalty, putting him back again. By the end of his stint he’d made up some places and was running well. The change-over pitstop went very smoothly, including refuelling, putting Rebecca’s team at the top of the pitstop challenge.
Rebecca was thankful to be in the car and put in a good first lap time but on her second lap a Black Falcon GT3 car bounced off the kerb and hit car 150, a Maserati, trying to share the track space. The Maserati lost control and hit Rebecca, pushing her KTM off the circuit and thus ending her race.
She says: “I’m disappointed but I must dust myself off, stand up and start preparations for the next race weekend because guess what, racing is tough. Nothing worth having falls on your lap! I will be back next time and stronger.”
