It’s Cook on top again in a rain and red flag hit second BTCC practice

Its Cook on top again (Photo by Marc Waller)Josh Cook is looking like he could be a contender for race wins here at the BTCC finale on the Brands Hatch Gp circuit.

The 2015 Jack Sears trophy winner took the fastest time in a similar way to the first session as a brief dash to the flag occurred after a red flag interrupted the session with three minutes to go.

The red flag was the third of the session as Stewart Lines went into paddock hill bend. Both the previous two red flags were caused by Matt Simpson in his Honda Civic who went off twice.

Conditions were much wetter than the first session leaving the times four seconds slower.

Cook is staying realistic;

“Being just free practice, P1 doesn’t count for that much at this stage and I’m not reading a great deal into it, but of course it’s always nice to be quickest,” he said. “The Triple Eight boys have done a really good job with the MG6 and we have a decent baseline. I’m happy with how we improved over the two sessions, although we still have a little bit of work to do in terms of consistency. Qualifying will be a completely different scenario, but the target has to be the front row of the grid.”

The Brands Hatch Grand Prix was expected to favour the front wheel drive runners and so it proved in this session with Jackson, Shedden and Ingram making up the rest of the top four in this session.

Aron Smith put his front wheel drive VW CC into fifth for BKR and Ash Sutton made up the top six in the second MG.

Another contender for the championship was next up with Jordan in seventh, he fights team mate Jackson for independent driver honours with only those two still in the running.

Adam Morgan was eighth with his Wix Racing Mercedes ahead of another Contender; Colin Turkington in his Subaru and the first rear wheel drive runner.

Michael Epps made up the top ten with Ollie Jackson just missing out but still impressing with eleventh.

Title contenders Andrew Jordan and Colin Turkington were seventh and ninth respectively while Adam Morgan and Michael Epps took the other top ten positions.

It’s hard to judge much from these times with the field relatively spread out and conditions may prove to be very different in qualifying at 15:40 with the sun emerging after this session finished.
