Rebecca’s fantastic weekend in the SsangYong Racing Challenge

Track action

Track action Arriving at a sunny Cadwell Park, Rebecca was raring to go and excited to head out for qualifying on the Saturday after a promising test session on the Friday afternoon.

Once on track, Rebecca put in some good laps as she enjoyed the twisty circuit again. It soon became evident, however, that her car was a little down on power. She persevered but a brake failure cut her session short, leaving her in P10 for the start of the first race.

The competent SsangYong team worked to fix Rebecca’s power issue and brakes, getting the car ready for the first race of the day.

Cadwell Park is a narrow, hilly track lined with trees and as such there aren’t a huge amount of places to pass, especially for a big SsangYong Musso pick up truck. The drivers did a great job, though, putting on a show for the crowd of spectators. There were some exciting on track battles and Rebecca finished race 1 in a respectable 8th place.

The starting positions for the next race were determined by the drivers’ fastest laps, putting Rebecca in P6 on the grid. She got a great start from this position and was soon up into 4th. This was in the early laps of the race so Rebecca moved into defensive mode to hold her position on the narrow track.

This paid off and Rebecca finished in 4th, her best finish this season. She says: “That was such a fun race, the Musso is amazing around Cadwell. I’m so pleased to have got fourth, especially after the issues in qualifying.”

“I haven’t raced here since 2014 but to come back here in the Musso was such a blast, cant wait for the next round, just a pity it is the last one this season”
