If you are male, 30 years old and driving a Ford Fiesta on a Friday in July in Halifax, you’re more likely to cause an accident than anyone else.
That’s according to recent research from Your Legal Friend which they have turned into a very revealing infographic.
While this might seem pretty specific, the list of different stats produced by the company do dispel some of the myths many of us have surrounding driving, particularly that men are better drivers than women and young motorists are more at risk than experienced, older ones.
According to Philip Waters at Your Legal Friend, over-confidence can be a big factor when it comes to your likelihood of being in an accident. Here’s a quick breakdown of what other interesting information the company managed to uncover:
• 70% of accidents are caused by male drivers and 59% of the victims in crashes are male according to the statistics. That dispels the myth that women tend to be more of a hazard on the road. In fact, it tells quite the opposite story.
• 30 year olds are more likely to cause an accident than any other age and you are more likely to be on the receiving end of a crash at the age of 32.
• Fridays in July are the most dangerous times of the year for motorists of all ages, with 9% of all accidents occurring during this month.
• April is considered the safest mont with just 7.25% of crashes.
The top 5 vehicles most involved in accidents are:
• Ford Fiesta
• Mercedes-Benz Sprinter
• Ford Focus
• Ford KA
• Vauxhall Corsa
The company looked at their own files and data to gather together the statistics, accessing some 25,000 cases. They found that the most common injury following an accident was to the neck followed by the back. Sundays, quite naturally, are the safest times to drive while Fridays seem to be more problematic for motorists, particularly between 5 and 6 pm.
Halifax has the most accidents, closely followed by Liverpool and Coventry. Driving into the back of another car was by far the most common accident accounting for 36% of the cases. Crashes at roundabouts and junctions came next.
With more traffic and busier roads, it’s can be difficult to stay accident free on our roads even if you are a good driver. The stats from Your Legal Friend, however, shows that the overall picture is less clear cut than we think, especially when it comes to our most common misconceptions.
