The multi-award-winning Renault 5 E-Tech electric is getting more efficient, smarter and even more colourful for MY27, with a broad package of enhancements that add extra range, technology and choice.
Both Urban and Comfort Range powertrains now travel further on a single charge, thanks to aerodynamic enhancements to the lower body and door mirrors, as well as optimised battery electronics.
As a result, the 40kWh, 120hp Urban Range now offers up to 197 miles WLTP, while the 52kWh, 150hp Comfort Range extends that to 259 miles WLTP.
For MY27, Renault 5 E-Tech electric gains a new SmartMode that automatically switches between Eco, Comfort and Sport according to how the car is being driven. That means it can call on the sharper responses of Sport mode when the driver accelerates for an overtake, for example, before moving back to Eco when the pace drops through a town or village.
Drivers who prefer to make the choice themselves can still change modes through the OpenR Link touchscreen or by voice command. With SmartMode taking care of more of the work automatically, the dedicated Multi-Sense button has been removed from the steering wheel.
Keeping phones topped up gets an upgrade, too. A new magnetic, cooled wireless smartphone charger using the Qi2 standard provides more effective charging and helps prevent overheating, restoring up to 50% of a compatible phone’s battery in an hour.
The eCall system has also been upgraded for compatibility with newer 4G/5G mobile networks.
Google’s Gemini AI assistant is joining Renault 5, too, available through an optional over-the-air update to Google Assistant. Rather than relying on rigid voice commands, Gemini lets occupants speak more naturally and hold an interactive conversation, including interrupting an answer or switching languages midway through. It brings a more conversational layer to the built-in Google technology already at the heart of Renault 5’s OpenR Link system.
None of these improvements come with an increase in price, meaning the Renault 5 E-Tech electric range still starts from £21,495 on-the-road, and still qualifies for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant.
