BTCC: Rockingham Preview

Track action (photo by Marc Waller)The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship this weekend heads to Northamptonshire’s Rockingham Circuit as the 2013 season counts down to its conclusion in just over a month’s time.

The three week gap between the last outing at Knockhill, which saw Colin Turkington and Andrew Jordan share the spoils, has seen Team HARD, among others, making announcements that will come into effect this weekend. Here’s a round-up of all the latest news;

Team HARD. announced last week that Tom Onslow-Cole would not be competing for the remainder of the season so that more development could be done with the PPCGB.com/Kraftwerk Racing VW Passat.

However, it was today (11th September) announced that Onslow-Cole would join Airwaves Racing for the final three rounds of the season, racing their third NGTC Ford Focus alongside Airwaves regulars Mat Jackson and Aron Smith.

Having had to miss out Knockhill due to funding issues, Jack Goff will be back in his RCIB Insurance Racing Vauxhall Insignia at Rockingham until the end of the year.

Team Hard (photo by Marc Waller)Howard Fuller will also be welcomed back into the Team HARD. outlet after it was confirmed he would race the second RCIB Insurance Insignia at Rockingham and Silverstone.

Fuller signed a deal with HARD. boss Tony Gilham at the start of the year to run in selected round of this year’s championship – having performed strongly at the same two meetings in 2012.

In more Team HARD. news, it was announced that Andy Wilmot, a regular in both the VW Cup and Dunlop Ford Fiesta Championship, would make his touring car debut with the team at Rockingham, racing the now unoccupied Volkswagen Passat.

Also making a return after missing Knockhill due to business commitments, Pirtek Racing’s Jeff Smith will too re-join the action at Rockingham, whilst his team mate Andrew Jordan continues his fight to take this year’s championship.

So, the scene is set for Rockingham 2013. All action will be live on ITV4 – with qualifying being streamed on the itv.com website.

For those heading to the circuit, there are planned road works happening in the area, which could cause delays. Rockingham’s own website has provided information on which areas are affected, which can be found using this link; http://www.rockingham.co.uk/raceevents/pdf/traffic.pdf  By Nikki Thompson – Photos by Marc Waller
