BTCC Rockingham Catch-Up – Race Three

BTCC action (photo by Marc Waller)Andrew Jordan took his second win of the day at Rockingham, taking advantage of his reversed grid pole position.

The Pirtek Racing team had a great day at Rockingham, with Jordan now leading the championship lead by thirty points ahead of the penultimate meeting at Silverstone.

Colin Turkington also made it onto the podium for eBay Motors by bringing his BMW home in second place. Jason Plato achieved his first podium at Rockingham in third after a disappointing day after a strong performance in Saturday’s qualifying session.

Lea Wood celebrated his hat-trick of Jack Sears’ trophy wins at Rockingham – and with 13 wins to his name, can now not be beaten in the S2000 championship standings – and will collect his Championship Trophy at the end of the season.

In a similar incident to that in race one, in avoidance of the spinning Honda of Jeff Smith, Team HARD’s Jack Goff also went into a spin causing him to send Rob Collard’s BMW into the barriers forcing him to retire on the spot. Damage on Goff’s car also saw him limp back to the pits to retire as the safety car came out on track to collect the leaders.

Podium (photo by Marc Waller)Matt Neal did well to recover from his retirement in the second race to finish in seventh, despite his soft tyres starting to fall off in the final lap. However Neal now stands fourth in the championship standings after Jordan’s successful weekend.

Jordan will lead the championship going into Silverstone with a margin between Gordon Shedden and Colin Turkington who now holds the third place spot.

The BTCC at Silverstone will be in just over a week’s time on the 28/29th September 2013.     By Nikki Thompson – Photo by Marc Waller
