BTCC 2014: Turkington triumphs at Brands Hatch

BTCC action (photo by Marc Waller)eBay Motors’ Colin Turkington has taken the third and final Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race win of the day in the season opener at Brands Hatch.

The Irishman held off from Honda Yuasa Racing’s Matt Neal and Jason Plato’s KX Clubcard Fuel Save MG – both of whom were on a charge during the race’s latter stages.

Having initially started from reverse pole position, Turkington’s eBay team mate Rob Collard took fourth place with Alain Menu and Gordon Shedden close behind.

Star of the day Andrew Jordan could only manage thirteenth place, whilst Pirtek Racing team mate Martin Depper’s weekend ended having made contact in another incident with Marc Hyne’s Triple Eight run MG.

The three eBay BMWs all got off the line well; however Nick Foster received a drive through penalty during the race for being out of his box on the start line. This lost him his third place and ended up 18th when the chequered flag fell.

Tom Ingram’s race ended in dramatic style when contact with Alain Menu’s BMR Volkswagen saw him hit the barriers coming out of Graham Hill Bend, which brought out the safety car to retrieve the stricken Avensis.

The next race will come from Donington Park on the 19/20th April.
