BTCC Victory for Aron Smith at Oulton Park

BTCC action (photo by Marc Waller)Aron Smith achieved the first win the Chrome Edition Restart Racing team in today’s third and final Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race at Oulton Park.

The Irishman led from lights to flag despite a brief safety car period in the early stages to clear Old Hall after Jack Goff, Matt Neal and Hunter Abbott all went off whilst trying to avoid Tom Ingram – whose Speedworks Toyota stopped off the line.

Gordon Shedden finished in second place with the Honda Yuasa Racing Tourer from Jason Plato. The MGs tyres wore better than the eBay Motors BMW of today’s two-time race winner Colin Turkington, who had to settle for fourth.

Rob Austin capitalised on his earlier podium and held off from Sam Tordoff in the second MG to finish fifth with Alain Menu seventh.

A disappointing weekend for Andrew Jordan saw him finish the third race in eighth with Mat Jackson – who spun after the restart – and Fabrizio Giovanardi rounding out the top ten for Airwaves Racing.

In terms of the championship, Colin Turkington goes into Croft leading ahead of Gordon Shedden – with Andrew Jordan having dropped to third place in front of Jason Plato.

You can see all the action from Croft on the 28th/29th June – with a full review of Oulton Park coming in the next few days.
