Things got off to a very wet start on Saturday with the GT Cup qualifying at Silverstone. As we all know, Rebecca is the Rain Queen so this was a bonus as she thrives in these conditions.
Rebecca’s skill in the wet weather meant she out-qualified her team mate Mike Sellar for the first time this season! As a team they qualified 24th overall and 7th in class.
However, Rebecca is still getting to grips with the car in the dry, she said: “I’ve never raced a car where you can literally brake so late but my cornering times are the same as Mike’s. This season is about learning and while I’m putting a lot of pressure on myself, I need to remember this is a very big step up from last year and the field is so competitive.”
During the joint race on Saturday the car had gearbox problems resulting in a DNF for the team. Everyone worked hard into Saturday night to fix the problem so Rebecca and Mike could continue on Sunday.
As the team were staying on the outskirts of the track with Snoozebox, this made it easier, and so much more sociable when the team needed to work on the car.
After a great night’s sleep in their Snoozeboxes, the team were ready for Sunday’s racing.
In the first race of the Sunday, Mike managed to climb some places and finish sixth. In race two, Rebecca took to the track and got a great start, managing to stick with the pack and learn a lot abut the car. However, an incident with a Ginetta resulted in a spin at Luffield. While Rebecca managed to regain some time after the incident, she finished eighth in class.
Overall, Rebecca’s pace is improving and she’s thrilled to be working with such a dedicated team as well as with sponsors Turtle Wax, VBOX, F.O.Y, Ryan Motor Insurance, Ultimate Ears and Snoozebox.
