Rebecca Jackson may be familiar to you as a contributor to Girl racer in the past, with stories about various aspects of motoring.
The successful business woman started racing in 2011 in a Porsche 924 which she raced for two seasons in the BRSCC Porsche championship before upgrading to a Boxster. She became the production class champion in 2013 and then moved onto the 750MC Roadsports series, still in her Boxster although now with modifications. Now she’s moved up again and has a team mate for the first time. We caught up for a quick chat with Rebecca to talk about her racing.
GR: After your championship winning season in 2013, 2014 didn’t always go to plan for you. What was your worst moment?
Breaking down at Rockingham. It was our only DNF of the season and normally we have no issues with reliability but this time we were unlucky. It was gutting, but I did remind myself that every team, even the best have hurdles to overcome.
GR: Carrying on with looking to the positive side of things, What was your best moment?
Definitely winning our class at the Birkett 6 Hour Relay Race. It was wonderful to enjoy some team racing where it’s everyone’s driving that counts. We all pedalled well, kept our cars sensibly fast and brought the victory home. I did the longest stint so it was a great warm up in line with my Project Le Mans.
GR: Can you explain for anyone that may not have heard about what Project Le Man is?
It’s my 4-year plan to get to racing at Le Mans. Each year has been a step up in terms of the car, driving ability, budget and media exposure. The Telegraph is following my whole journey and I have a great team supporting me. If your goals don’t scare you, then they’re not big enough!
What do you know about your new team mate Mike?
I have raced alongside him before, when we were in a different class and I know he’s quick.
GR: So what have you moved up to in 2015?
I’m Competing in GT Cup in a Gen 1 997, it’s got over 400 horse power and no driver aids so is the perfect tool to get to grips with driving a proper race car.
GR: Your car sounds like a big step up, Have you been on the pace straight away has it taken a bit of getting used to?
It’s been difficult to be right on the pace right away and there are more competitive cars in our class. The main aim for this season is to master driving a 911 Cup Car. It’s not an easy car to master, I have been told but once you have anything is possible!
It sounds like this is mainly a learning year then?
This is not like any car I’ve raced before plus it’s very expensive and doesn’t belong to me! So it will be a lot about learning. I’m really excited and at the end of the season, even more motorsport doors will open. I’m also so chuffed to be working with Turtle Wax again. We have big plans for this year and I love working with the team there. We have videos, articles and all sorts planned!
