King is one of the drivers that Alice Powell has been helping with her kart team; Alice Powell Racing and Powell has helped King in her transition to car racing after some very successful years in karting.

King had tested several cars over the winter all with advice and coaching from Powell but it was eventually decided that King should enter the Formula Jedi Championship. Further tests were arranged with the chosen car to try and get King up to speed ready for her debut.

Friday testing was first which proved to be very productive for King as she knocked huge chunks of time off her lap times, all the while getting more confidence in the car. The race weekend was split over the two days with qualifying and a race on both days.

King took part in the first qualifying session on Saturday morning, still getting faster with every lap, she was pleased to make the top ten for her first ever race. As the race got underway in the afternoon, King got a great start to move up to eighth place although she then got in a close battle with the driver who was now ninth. The two battled for several laps but the other drivers greater experience got him the advantage by the end but ninth was still a great result for King’s first ever race. Now on to Sunday when she would do it all again.

She was determined to improve in the race and a great start once again and fought up the field. She ended up taking ninth and was in touch with eighth place as she crossed the line. Overall it had been a good debut for King at Snetterton with two top nine finishes and lots learnt about the championship and the car. She was pleased with the weekend;

“Overall, it was a very good weekend, obviously very different for me with it being my first race in cars. The problems that developed from the car should be sorted quickly and I’m feeling confident to build on my progress. I’d like to say a massive thank you to my Dad for his support over the weekend, my sponsors; DA Construction & Joinery Ltd, Fusion Graphics for providing me with the best looking car on the grid, and MIS Motorsport Insurance. Also thank you goes to the team, Jedi Racing, and Alice Powell for her continuous support.”

Bryony King’s next race is at Silverstone on the 8th May. You can keep up to date with Bryony’s season via twitter (@KingBRacing) or on her Facebook page; Bryony King Racing.
