Jessica King flies in her Fiesta at the Snetterton season opener

Jessica King

Jessica KingThe first weekend in April saw me heading to Norfolk to compete in my first races of the season at Snetterton. I’m racing in Class D of the BRSCC Quaife Fiesta championship again for 2016.

After struggling to get to grips with the car in practice I qualified 3rd place, which I was happy with, but knew I could push harder.

Race one proved difficult for me as I dropped back off of the start to 4th because of things happening ahead with the Class C grid. I had a short battle with Stuart Robbins, which lead me to securing 3rd place. For the rest of the race I was chasing 1st and 2nd place but couldn’t quite catch them therefore ended the race finishing 3rd and receiving a podium for my first race of the season to which I was delighted with.

Race two was the most exciting for me as I was determined to get a better start and work my way up the grid. I got a reasonably good start and I was still in 3rd going into the first corner, side by side with a fellow D Class driver, until we got to the second corner where a collision had happened which caused the race to get red flagged and re started. This meant all drivers were put into correct grid positions and the Jessica Kingrace was re started, I got a good start again and was in 2nd but I was faced with Stuart Robbins who got a better run than me and got ahead putting me in 3rd. We battled for a couple of laps whilst I found where I was quicker in order to ensure I could get a better run out of a corner to make a good clean overtake, which I did, this then put me back in second. I continued to push the car to the limit and managed to pull a gap from the driver behind me and began to close in on 1st place. The checkered flag was put out and I was on the podium again for my second race of the season in second place which I was extremely happy about as this is my highest finishing place to date; I was even happier to find out that I had the fastest lap, which was a great achievement for me.

I would like to say a massive thank you to my team Daniels Motorsport, and to all of my sponsors, DNA, Group Trader, Embark Finance, Brian and Andrew Little Photography, for giving me the opportunity to race in such a great championship.  By Jessica King
