BTCC Oulton Park Practice 1

BTCC action at Oulton (photo by Marc Waller)The MG KX Momentum team headed first practice with Jason Plato leading his team mate Sam Tordoff in a one-two. Only half a second behind was Gordon Shedden in his Honda Yuasa Racing Civic.

The session was interupted by two red flags, the first for Jeff Smith who shunted his Pirtek Racing Honda Civic at Lodge. Then not long after the restart the red flag was out once more for James Cole whose RCIB Insurance racing Vauxhall Insignia had stopped in a dangerous position. 

Andrew Jordan, Colin Turkington and Matt Neal were the only other drivers within a second of plato in 4th, 5th and 6th respectively. Dave Newsham was quickest of the Toyota’s for his team Speedworks home race. He took seventh, just ahead of Adam Morgan in his Ciceley Racing Toyota.

Lea Wood had an excellent run to take 16th, comfortably ahead of his nearest rival in the Jack Sears trophy and also ahead of several NGTC cars including the unlucky Jeff Smith and Ebay Motors Nick Foster. Liam Griffin was Wood’s nearest rival in 22nd. Aaron Mason took thiurd in class and 23rd overall on his first BTCC practice session, standing in for James Kaye at AMD. By Marc Waller
