Lorenzo takes consecutive MotoGP win at Catalunya

Jorge Lorenzo (photo by MotoGP)It was a Spanish 1 2 3 at the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya with Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo claiming a strong victory to close down the Championship lead to today’s second place man Dani Pedrosa who had a duel with his Repsol Honda team-mate Marc Marquez,

luckily Pedrosa was able to keep his defence up and hold off Marquez’s onslaught. The Spanish rookie said he was very happy with today’s podium.


Lorenzo’s team-mate Valentino Rossi took fourth place, following on from the Italian was LCR Honda’s Stefan Bradl. Monster Tech3 Yamaha rookie Bradley Smith crossed the finish line in his best position so far after taking sixth place even though the British rider is still suffering with a severely damaged little finger on his left hand.

In seventh was Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso and the top CRT honours went to local rider Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaro who only lives just two minutes away from the Catalan track. NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Colin Edwards took ninth and rounding out the top ten was Ducati test rider Michele Pirro.

It was a crash filled race starting with GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista who very nearly crashed into Rossi on the opening lap, others riders soon followed with crashes from PBM’s Michael Laverty, Espargaro’s Team-mate Randy De Puniet, Pramac Racing Ducati’s Andrea Iannone, Ducati’s Nicky Hayden and Avintia Blusens Hector Barbera. Elsewhere Cardion AB Motoracings Karel Abraham returned to the pits with a mechanical issue.

The seventh round of the MotoGP season with take place on the 29th June at the Iveco TT Assen in the Netherlands.
