taking 18th position overall and fifth place of the Moto3 competitors as the series was once again blessed with dry and warm conditions at Brands Hatch last weekend. The result means that Sam retains her fifth position in the Moto3 Championship with six rounds remaining.

Unlike every other round, the first day at Brands Hatch was a test day with just one 30 minute session for the Motostar competitors taking place during the afternoon around the 1.2 mile Indy circuit due to the limited number of days the Grand Prix circuit can be utilised.

From Saturday morning onwards all classes were able to ride on the iconic 2.43 mile Grand Prix circuit, the first qualifying session was held in cooler conditions than the previous day and Sam completed 12 laps whilst getting to grips with the circuit, ending up provisionally in 23rd position on the grid.

Having made adjustments to a new rear shock Sam was using at the weekend she significantly improved her lap time by over a second during the final qualifying session on Saturday afternoon setting a personal best lap time on her Moto3 bike resulting in her taking a place on row six of the grid, qualifying in 22nd position, and sixth in the Moto3 class.

Sam gained further confidence during the short eight minute Sunday morning warm-up having made more adjustments overnight, and almost matched her qualifying time during the four laps she completed.

The race took place over 12 laps, with Sam making a good start taking the outside line on the approach to Paddock Hill bend as the 29 riders battled for position on the opening lap with Sam maintaining her 22nd position. Over the next few laps Sam hunted down Milo Ward and passed him during lap seven, she maintained a small advantage until they exchanged positions on the final lap, with the pair coming under some pressure from James Hobson, another Moto3 competitor, during the final stages of the race. However, Sam kept her composure to finish at the front of this group in 18th position and fifth place of the Moto3 riders.

“We have been working so hard during our development year with the Moto3 bike, and the result doesn’t tell the whole story of just how much effort the team is putting in. We are continuing to learn and gain confidence every time we go on track and are looking forward to the next round at Oulton Park in a couple of weeks time.” Sam Burman  By Martin Knighton
