Alice increases her British F3 cup lead

Alice Powell Cotswold racer, Alice Powell, increased her lead at the top of the British F3 Cup standings to 26 points, after a consistent weekend at Silverstone.

After qualifying 3rd on the grid for race one, she forced an error from Louis Hamilton-Smith on the first lap, to move into 2nd. She kept the pressure on Tristan Cliffe in P1, until Cliffe hit a plastic track marker which landed in the path of Alice’s car. Powell had nowhere to go, and drove over it, damaging the front end of her car. However, she managed to nurse her car home, keeping her P2 spot.

Alice, who is BRDC Rising Star, lined up 2nd on the grid for race two. She got the perfect start, as she jumped Cliffe into the first corner. Alice kept the lead until Cliffe got a good run out of the Maggots, Becketts section, and passed Alice around Stowe corner. From then on, Alice held off pressure from championship rival, Alex Craven, to bring the car home in 2nd place.

These two results means Alice increases her lead at the top of the standings to 26 points. Speaking about the weekend, the ex-Cotswold School student said “It was a consistent weekend. We got the points, yes it was not a win, but we increased our lead in the Championship. I really struggled with the handling of the car in race two, so it was very tough to hold onto 2nd place. Moving forward, we cannot relax. The championship is hotting up and we have some work to do to get the car back to where it was at the start of the season.”

Rounds 13 and 14 of the F3 Cup are on the 7th-8th September at Snetterton, Norfolk.
