Marquez grabs Malaysian MotoGP pole

Marc Marquez (Photo by MotoGP)Championship leader Marc Marquez set a new lap record to grab pole position for the Malaysian GP in Sepang.

The 20 year old Spaniard clocked a time of 2.00’011 to lead Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi and Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Cal Crutchlow.

Starting the second row is Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo who will be hoping to pull back the 39 point lead Marquez has in the world championship standings. Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa will start from sixth he too will be hoping for a good finish to keep his title fight alive, he was followed by GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista. Monster Yamaha Tech3 rider Bradley Smith equalled his highest qualifying position in seventh. Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso and top CRT rider Aleix Espargaro on his power Electronic Aspar machine.

Rounding out the top ten is Andrea Iannone for the Pramac Ducati team. LCR Honda rider Stefan Bradl suffered a right ankle fracture after crashing earlier on, he will miss tomorrow’s race and will head to Barcelona for surgery. By Laura Turner
