Power Maxed racing sign Dave Newsham for the 2015 BTCC

Dave Newsham (photo by Marc Waller)Power Maxed racing, which we reported last week had been bought from Chris Stockton by Automotive Brands LTD have announced 2014 Jack Sears trophy Winner Dave Newsham as their driver for the 2015 BTCC season.

Newsham had been hoping to drive again for his 2014 team AMD Tuning.com after he scored the team’s maiden overall podium at Knockhill as well as taking the Jack Sears trophy in their Ford Focus, but a lack of sponsorship from Newsham saw them sign 2014 Clio cup champion Mike Bushell instead.

Since then Newsham has been hunting for an alternative drive and silly season internet rumours have linked him with several other teams on the grid, including Rob Austin Racing, Houseman Racing, Team Hard and even Motorbase.

He explains his reasons behind the signing and paid tribute to former driver and team owner Chris Stockton;
“Signing Dave is an important part of our master-plan for 2015. Dave is an exceptional racer, you only have to look at his track record and race wins, podiums and the Jack Sears Trophy to see why signing him was a no brainer.

“Chris Stockton has given us a great platform, he did lots of hard yards last year to enable us to hit the ground running this season. It is important to note that without Chris and his input, we would be nowhere.”

As reported last week, Stockton will still be involved with the team and they are investigating the possibility of running a second car alongside for an as yet undecided driver. Newsham is taking the Saloon Shell bought from Aiden Moffat’s team at the end of last season but the Hatchback shell used by Stockton last year remains vacant.

Newsham has also announced today that he has a new sponsor in the form of Simply Wifi, a company providing WIFI networks to the Highlands & Islands, Moray and Cumbria  By Marc Waller
