The current MotoGP World Champion led his team-mate Valentino Rossi and Monster Tech3 Yamaha’s Cal Crutchlow.
Taking fourth place was Ducati’s Nicky Hayden. Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa took fifth and following the Spaniard was Italian rider’s Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso, who will both be hoping for a good finish at their home GP. Germany’s Stefan Bradl finished the session eighth fastest overall. While Power Electronic Aspars Randy De Puniet and Ducati Test Team’s Michele Pirro completed the top ten.
Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez escaped a crash, also crashing during the practice session was Bradley Smith who landed heavily on his left hand. Smith will race on Sunday but will have to undergo a skin graft next week on his badly damaged finger. By Laura Turner
