Marquez takes MotoGP victory in Austin

Marc Marquez (photo by MotoGP)Repsol Honda’s current MotoGP World Champion Marc Marquez strolled to victory in Austin Texas at the Grand Prix of the Americas.

In second Ducati’s Andrea Dovizioso while Movistar Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi completed the podium.

Rossi’s Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo took fourth despite suffering with a debilitating illness all weekend. It was another good finish for the Ducati team as Andrea Iannone claimed fifth place, while in sixth and seventh British riders Bradley Smith and Cal Crutchlow brought their Tech3 and Honda machines across the finish line. Open class rider Aleix Espargaro took eighth. While elsewhere in ninth Spanish rookie Maverick Vinalez and completing the top ten was Danilo Petrucci.

Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa is recovering well from his aggressive arm-pump operation which could see the Spaniard out of action for six weeks, News soon spread of the former World Champion Casey Stoner making a return at this weekend race but Honda didn’t take the Australian up on his offer due to the lack of testing and wanting to put Stoner on a competitive bike. Japans Hiroshi Aoyama will stand in instead. MotoGP now heads to Argentina for the third round of the season.  By Laura Turner
