The Team IHG Rewards Club driver launched past second placed jack Goff off the line and was soon on the tail of Jackson as the BMW’s tyres got to their best.

Jackson had got as good a start as race one but couldn’t pull away from Priaulx now the Focus has had some success ballast.

Goff did try to repass Priaulx into Luffield on lap six but Priaulx defended hard and Goff lost pace allowing Aron Smith’s BMR VW to start to challenge.

Priaulx could then pull away again and put his full concentration into passing Jackson for the lead. On lap eight he closed on Jackson as the Motorbase driver made an error into Copse.

Jackson somehow held on as they headed towards Maggots but he could do nothing about Priaulx as they braked into the hairpin. Priaulx then pulled away and never looked like being challenged again taking his 50th Motorsport career victory.

Things then went from bad to worse for Mat Jackson when he then got a puncture sending him to the pits and leaving him to finish down in twenty fourth.

Jackson’s demise left Jack Goff to claim second place for MG ahead of Aron Smith who dropped to a second away by the end of the race.

Jordan’s championship hopes are nw realistically totally over.

Shedden then took fourth just ahead of his team mate Matt Neal

Championship leader Gordon Shedden hounded Andrew Jordan’s MG for much of the contest before last lap heartache befell the latter. A puncture for Jordan sent him tumbling down the order, leaving his mathematical championship chances hanging by a thread, as Shedden went on to take fourth from team-mate Matt Neal. Sam Tordoff was sixth for WSR (aka JCT600 Racing with GardX) with Jason Plato seventh. The weekend is not going as Plato had hoped and Shedden is pulling out a decent advantage going into the finale at Brands Hatch. Eighth was Plato’s team mate Turkington just ahead of Rob Collard in ninth.

James Cole was tenth which proved significant as tenth place was drawn for the reverse grid. This means all three poles today have been taken by Motorbase. It remains to be seen if Cole can emulate Jackson’s race one victory.

Eleventh was Adam Morgan’s Wix Racing Mercedes four seconds ahead of Josh Cook in his Power Maxed Chevrolet Cruze who takes the Rookie honours for this race.

Martin Depper took the final points in fifteenth, having a battle with team mate Jeff Smith and Mike Bushell in the later stages.

Nicolas Hamilton had a dramatic end to his race when contact caused a puncture on the start-finish straight and sent the AMD Tuning Audi driver spinning into the wall. There is considerable damage to the rear of the Audi and the team will have a big job trying to fix it in time for race three.

So with tenth placed Cole getting the reverse grid pole, Collard lines up alongside with Turkington and Plato on the second row. Tordoff and Neal are on row three with Shedden and Aron Smith on row four. Completing the top ten on the grid Goff and Priaulx are ninth and tenth.

The final race of the day gets underway at 5:17pm
