Leicestershire racer Charlie Martin made it two podiums from two consecutive race weekends in the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge, when she picked up silverware at Rockingham this weekend.
Charlie finished the first race of the weekend in P3 in class, building on the podium she scored during the season opener at Oulton Park.
Opening the weekend in a strong position by qualifying third in class, Charlie once again proved her race pace and kept a cool head amidst fierce competition. Having led the race with a fine margin, she brought the car home in third position in just her second race weekend in the Championship.
Charlie Martin said: “This weekend has been another good opportunity to gain the experience I need to deliver strong performances consistently. While I’m a bit frustrated, as we could have taken the win this weekend, I know where the time can be found in the car and in my technique.”
“I’m pleased to have improved my qualifying performance this weekend and I know how to handle the car under pressure now and start to deliver a win in class, which was so close today. I’m pleased to come away with silverware again – but I’m hungry to get on the top step in Thruxton.”
Charlie made her switch to British circuit racing this season, having previously made a name for herself competing in European hill climb events with a Formula Renault single-seater and a Norma M20FC prototype machine. She also stood on the podium at Le Mans last year, finishing third in her debut endurance outing at the Trophee Tourisme Endurance. She is aiming to be the first transgender racing driver to compete at the 24 hours of Le Mans.
The next round of the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge will take place at Thruxton in Hampshire on May 19-20.
