This week’s road test puts me in the driving seat of the Peugeot 3008 GT Line. First off, I’m not really a big fan of the eco-car, but then again I did own a small eco-warrior a few years back which was a little ‘ordinary’.
Although I have to say, the 3008 GT Line from Peugeot looks far from ordinary. In fact, it looks pretty smart with its detailed lines and sharp interior.
With that in mind, let’s waste no more time and get on with the review. Firstly, you will notice that it’s chic, a good size, and actually very good looking. I recently tested the DS7 and I have to say that was a great looking car.
Plus, on the inside, the 3008, is funky and well set out with minimal fuss. Actually thinking about it, I like both the outside and the inside. But of course, I would never say that out loud to anyone outside of my office. Ok, I’m a Peugeot fan, and I can’t help it.
So, did Peugeot get it right? Well, let’s see what’s occurring with this funky little SUV.
Power and Efficiency:
My test car was fitted with a 1.2 PureTech petrol engine, which actually helped the little 3008 dash about like a scalded Cat, meaning it’s pretty nippy for an SUV. If you are interested, then you can expect a 0-62 time of 10.8sec and a decent top speed of around 117mph. Fuel consumption is also an important part of buying any car for most people, and I’m happy to report that the 3008 achieved a combined consumption of 50+mpg. Plus, it has the addition of 230Nm of torque, which is more than enough to keep you progressing at a steady pace.
On the road:
The 3008 is a very playful car, but also practical for a family. Of course, I wanted to find out more, so I went for a brisk drive into some of the more challenging corners. Well, I’m happy to report that the 3008 did a pretty good job of keeping it all together. Actually, even when the pace picked up, I still found the steering to be direct and well balanced. Also, being an SUV, I expected it to be a little ‘soft’, but thankfully the suspension does a great job of keeping you comfortable on many different road surfaces.
Equipment, Safety and Technology
The 3008 offers a first-rate experience that is achieved through a combination of interior quality; attention to detail and a wide range of equipment such as; self-levelling headlights, PEUGEOT i-cockpit, GT Line trim, full LED headlights. There is also a host of standard equipment such as; ABS with REF, alarm, CDS &ASR, front & rear disc brakes, Bluetooth with USB, 6-speaker radio, adaptive driver & front passenger airbags. The i-Cockpit is a neat little function to have in any car, as it comes with some smart kit such as a; configurable 12.3” head-up digital instrument panel, 8.0” capacitive touchscreen which includes a multi-function steering wheel.
To sum up:
I actually like the Peugeot 3008, because it gives you all the things you need from a well-formed SUV that is just as happy in the city or out on the open road. To be honest, it really is a breath of fresh air from Peugeot. There is a sticky point here though – and it’s the price. But, if you can get over that, then the 3008 makes perfect sense.
