Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo led the way as free practice got underway at Phillip island with Aleix Espargaro in second with World Champion Marc Marquez in third.
After suffering a crash during the session pramacs Andrea Iannone took fourth place, in fifth Andrea Dovizioso. Lorenzo’s Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi claimed sixth position. Cal Crutchlow set the seventh fastest time with Tech3s Pol Espargaro, Pramac’s Yonny Hernandez and Dani Pedrosa completing the top ten. By Laura Turner
